Home Made Cushion!

 Hello Lovelies,

At the start of this year I decided that I was going to re decorate my room, there maybe many home ware post in the future! I was rummaging through all my old textiles stuff and realised I had loads of fabric hidden away that could easily be made in to something. I wanted to make something for my room and I need more cushions as well you can never have enough cushion to scatter about, and here is what I did.

First of all I got a large piece of cream material, mine was about 90cm long, and 45 cm wide. Mine was one long piece of material not two separate pieces. I also used some felt to be the backing as I was placing some pattered fabric over the top. I also gathered some scissors, pins and white thread, I also drew and cut out a rough shape of a bird. I didn't end up using the pink felt.

I pinned the template I made on to the felt and cut out two bird shapes.

I next found some fabric I liked and thought would look nice on the cushion, then I cut the shape of the bird out using the previous template and placed over the top of the felt. I also decided where I wanted the birds to sit on the cushion, I liked it facing each other but slightly off from one another.

Once I had decided where I wanted them, I then pinned the birds down making sure I didn't go through to the back of the cushion.

I then began to stitch the birds on to the cushion, I decided to do a cross stitch  as I thought it would look nicer but you can do any stitch you'd like.

Once I stitched the first bird down I did exactly the same to the second with the same cross stitch, you can add more to the cushion but that's all I wanted on this one.

I then began to stitch the sides together, so I turned the cushion inside out left about 2-3cm from the edge and pinned all along the edge for a guideline. I simply did a running stitch along both sides, I did however go back over it to secure it.

Once I had stitched both sides together I needed a way of keeping the cushion in the cover so I opted for  having a few buttons on the back so I can easily take the cushion out if needed.

Here's what the back of the cushion looks like, three buttons with loops of thick thread round them so keep the cushion in. You could easily use some really pretty ribbon, I simply used the things I had in my textiles kit.

And here's the final out come, really cute easy to make cushion! I really like it, it was a nice was to spend a few evenings getting back into the habit of creating something, its been a long time since I did! I definitely want to make more home made things for my room!

Have you made anything like this for your room?

Hope your all having a lovely day!
